EaseTonic Plus is an enhanced formulation of Xiao Yao San (EaseTonic), one of the most popular TCM formulas for stress and mood management.

The formula builds on the ability of Xiao Yao Pian to clear Liver Qi stagnation. Chronic stress, according to TCM theory, leads to depressed Qi in the Liver meridian pathways. Other organ systems are affected as well, including Spleen. Consequently, nutrients can’t be properly absorbed, which leads to excess phlegm and heat in the body.

Although it may seem like an esoteric concept in the west, emotions are closely tied to each organ system. In TCM theory, all associated feelings of anger, including resentment, short temper, and frustration, are tied to the Liver organ system. Anger results in stagnant Liver Qi.

Our Plus formula offers all the benefits of the original formula but also contains two extra heat-clearing herbs. The possible benefits of these heat-clearing herbs are alleviating classic symptoms of excess heat, including being quick to anger and hot flashes associated with menopause.

Given enough time, taking EaseTonic Plus may disperse the Liver Qi stagnation, resulting in an improved relaxed feeling and mental outlook.

How Does It Work?

Collectively, the all-natural herbs in Xiao Yao San soothe the Liver to disperse depressed Qi, strengthen the Spleen to nourish the Blood, and support a normal menstrual cycle. The addition of Mu Dan Pi and Zhi Zi clears excess heat.

Chai Hu (Bupleurum root) soothes the Liver to disperse Qi. Dang Gui (Chinese Angelica root) and Bai Shao (White peony root) nourish the Blood and the Liver. These first three herbs interact together to resolve the root cause of Liver Qi stagnation, as well as Blood deficiency.

Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizome) and Fu Ling (Poria) strengthen the middle warmer and reinforce the Spleen, thereby enriching the generation of Qi and Blood. Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger rhizome) regulates the stomach and warms the middle warmer. Bo He (Peppermint) assists Chai Hu in soothing the Liver to disperse depressed Qi. Gan Cao (Licorice root) assists Bai Zhu and Fu Ling in replenishing Qi and invigorating the middle warmer; it also coordinates the synergistic effects of all the herbs in this formula.

Mu Dan Pi (Tree Peony Bark), besides clearing heat, cools the blood, invigorates the blood and dispels blood stasis. And the other heat-clearing herb, Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit) cools the blood and resolves toxicity.

This formula is recommended in my Chinese Herbalism school for women going through menopause that have emotional outbursts and hot flashes. It works wonders for men too! Whenever I feel the Liver Qi Stagnation coming on (frustrated, stiff neck, negative outlook on life, tense) I take the recommended dose on the bottle and within a few hours I am feeling much more relaxed. By the next day I'm feeling normal again. Once a month I will go out for a few drinks with my friends and the next day I will usually feel crabby, stiff, but very warm as well. This formula is almost perfect for that situation. I wish I would have known about this when I was in college!

This is the first time I've tried Chinese herbs, at the suggestion of my acupuncturist/LMT/herbalist wizard, and so far, they've worked EXACTLY how he said they would- I've felt more grounded and calmer, and my energy has been MUCH more directed/focused. I have a lot of heat I need to expel, and it's been helping with that as well. I started doing 5 tablets 2x a day and now am on 5 tablets 3x a day- the only side effect I experienced was just on the first day I took them (diarrhea) and none of that after the first day and no other side effects whatsoever since. I WISH I'D TRIED THIS YEARS AGO!!!

I tend to run hot and have a very yang constitution, and this evens me out spectacularly. I feel calm and grounded but also full of energy. I feel the qi moving through my body effortlessly, almost like I’m a kid again. I highly recommend this formula for anyone living in the modern world, especially when paired with a tonifying formula such as AllTonic that is also sold by activeherb. Cheers!

I've been trying to quit drinking caffeine and have developed a sensitivity to alcohol, convincing me that I need a liver nourishing herb. I have been taking five tablets three times per day, along with other supplements, and it seems to be making a difference in that I'm more able to avoid caffeine and alcohol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rene from I'll be taking this for the rest of summer. My acupuncturist suggested I switch over to these herbs when Spring hit. She also thinks my constitution leans toward liver. I didn't think my liver was as imbalanced as it has been in the past, but I suppose I have been calming down a bit. I think there have been a few times where I was upset, but I noticed I was unable to channel the usual intensity. A few times it made me stuff and wonder if I was making up my own drama, but in the end I think it is learning a new way to feel and express upset. I was just upset, but it didn't hook into me and manifest into outburst.
