What does it do?
American Ginseng (Panax Quinquefolius Linn,
美国花旗参) is
a species of Ginseng found and grown in North America. Although it is not of the Chinese origin,
it is Chinese who came to appreciate and realize its use after it was discovered as
the American equivalent of the Chinese ginseng over 300 years ago. Ginseng has been used
in traditional Chinese medicine for many centuries and considered to be "the king of
herbs". Ginseng may nourish the Qi energy and promote physical strength and immune function.† Ginseng
may be used for various types of deficiency as defined in traditional Chinese medicine terms. While
Chinese ginseng has the property of warming up the body, American ginseng does not warm up the body
and thus is more suitable for use in various conditions and in longer terms.
Recent clinical studies suggest ginseng may be helpful in improving dementia after stroke
and in relieving cancer patients' fatigue.†
